Here is a freeware utility that didn't work on everything I tested it on, but it did work on some. Since it's free and a very small download, then I don't see that as a huge problem.

Then check out www.defaultpassword.com. This site offers a search of over 1200 default passwords for various pieces of hardware and software. There is a validation field for each entry although most don't seem to be validated but that is probably because the list is populated by it's visitors.
